Where were you?

Five years ago today two planes crashed into the World Trade Center. Where were you?

Emmaline was about a year and a half old. Too little to know anything. My mom called and told me to turn on the t.v. It was on but we were watching Nick or Disney; no breaking news there. I turned to something, I can not remember what, and was greeted with the images of the planes crashing into the towers. It was surreal. Here I was, tucked into the Midwest, with my baby girl and this was happening in New York. In the United States.

That night when Mark got home, we packed up Emma and went to Crown Center for dinner at the Crayola Cafe and to hang out. To get away from the t.v. and the images.

I remember feeling scared. Fearing what the future held for my baby girl. What did it mean for everyone?

Today I take a moment to say prayers for all who lost someone in the attacks on 9/11. I take a moment to wish them peace. I take a moment to thank our military who has been serving us for the beginning. And to say prayers for those still fighting and for those whose lives have been lost.

I know that 9/11 will forever be something that people will ask, where were you when. I know it will be something my kids will read about in school and ask me about. How strange does it feel that I was alive during a where were you when moment? (much like the Challenger crash)

Today take a moment. Take a moment to remember where were you when 9/11 happened. Take a moment to reflect on that and on how you have changed over the last five years since. And take a moment to remember the lives lost and the sacrifices made.

And Just Like That.....

I made the fatal mistake of reading reviews and articles before watching a single episode of the show.  I knew full well I would watch every episode regardless.  I read anyway.  Spoilers? Not bothered.   Let me give some back story here.   At 17/18 my dream had been to go to a big city (Chicago was my thinking at the time), get my degree in journalism/editing/publishing and go work at a big time magazine.  Keep in mind we are talking about the mid 90's here so the idea that magazines would cease to be relevant was not even on my radar.  I had been editor of my high school yearbook and unbeknownst to me at the time, we were actually doing the yearbook by coding and would get printouts hoping we had coded copy correctly.  I just typed the copy I was supposed to type with the weird little codes that had been given to me on a piece of paper.  I would later discover this was actually HTML code we were doing.  Who knew?  This fu...
